Why no accounts

Typing practice generates a detailed record of how you use a keyboard. That is more personal than it first appears, and there is no technical reason it needs to sit on someone else's server. Storing results locally removes the question entirely: there is no breach to worry about, because there is nothing centralised to breach.

The trade-off is real and worth stating plainly. Your history does not follow you between devices, and clearing your browser data erases it. We think that is the right exchange for a practice tool, but it is an exchange.

How the measurements work

Words per minute uses the standard convention of five characters per word, including spaces, which is what makes scores comparable across languages and platforms. Net WPM counts only correctly typed characters, so accuracy is built into the headline number rather than reported beside it.

Consistency is derived from the variation in your speed second by second. A high score means a steady rhythm; a low one means bursts and stalls. It is often more informative than peak speed, because rhythm is what survives fatigue over a working day.

Offline by default

The site is a progressive web app. Once loaded, tests and lessons keep working with no network connection, and it can be installed to a home screen like a native application. Since nothing needs a server, offline is the normal case rather than a degraded one.
